White Berry-Bush, Flueggea Virosa, also known as Snowberry Tree, is a large, fruit bearing perennial, bushy shrub. The plant is dioecious (male and female flowers on separate plants), fast-growing, multiple stemmed with a distribution throughout the Paleotropics.

Flueggea Virosa
in general grows from 1.5-2 meters tall but sometimes grows to a spreading tree up to 5 meters tall, with small thorn-like branches. White berry-bush is a member of the Euphorbiaceae family the genus Securinega.

Leaves are alternate, ovate, and green, lighter below with a fine crinkly surface, 15-90mm long, 12-50mm wide, and crowded together along the branchlets. Flowers are creamy green or white, perfumed, appearing from mid spring to mid summer followed by fruit a month or so later. Flowers are pollinated by a diversity of insects such as wasps and bees.

Fruit of the white berry bush are small, fleshy, white edible berries, 5-10 mm across, with 3 or 4 small seeds. The gum is also edible. The fruit can be pounded up then soaked in water to make an acidic drink.

The reddish-brown to brown bark of the Flueggea Virosa can be applied to heal skin sores and alleviate itching from insect bites or as treatment for skin rash from heat when thinly chopped up then boiled until water turns red. This liquid is best applied on skin when still slightly warm.

Plant propagation is by seeds. The fruit must be cleaned and the small seeds dried out. The seeds must be shown up at least inside a month of collecting them in a well-drained seedling growth medium. Germination is generally very good.
